Requirements in FM 1319 Standard
Approval Requirements for Fire Pumps
According to the FM 1319 standard, it is not sufficient to approve only the hydraulic part of the pump. Fire pump manufacturers are obliged to deliver the FM-approved fire pump with the following equipment:
- FM-Approved Fire Pump
- Electric Motor Complying with NEMA-MG1 or IEC Standards (Maximum service factor of 1.15)
- FM-Approved Diesel Engine
- FM-Approved Electric Fire Pump Controller
- FM-Approved Diesel Fire Pump Controller
- FM-Approved Casing Relief Valve (For electric pumps)
- FM-Approved Air Release Valve
- FM-Approved Relief Valve and Discharge Cone (If required)
Differences Between FM 1319 and Other Standards
FM vs. NFPA 20
FM 1319 has many similarities with NFPA 20 but does not require the NEMA-MG1 standard for electric motors or provide FM approval for them.
FM vs. UL Standards
Unlike UL, FM does not require approval for jockey pump controllers.
